Little is as annoying as flickering lights. But why does it flicker and what can you do to get rid of the flickering?Autumn is here with its heavy darkness both morning and evening, and if everything is not as it should be with the light at home, it is particularly noticeable at this time of year. Most of us have probably occasionally experienced lights that flicker, flicker or come and go a little. When we all used incandescent bulbs, the reason was usually that the bulb wasn't properly inserted, while fluorescent tubes, as you know, tended to flash just before they stop working. However, with LED light bulbs, which most of us have now switched to because that is what is mainly sold in stores, there is a completely different reason when the light flickers.Members of Huseierne receive free legal advice on houses and property.- The reason for flickering LED lights is almost always a mismatch between bulbs and dimmers, says Rolf Langeland, general manager of Askestad-Aas Elektro in Spikkestad and subject expert for "Sinnasnekker'n" Otto Robsahm.- Assume that you have a number of spots connected to one dimmer. As the bulbs wear out, you replace one by one over time from halogen to LED.What then happens is that when all the LED bulbs are in place, the load has become too small for the dimmer. The dimmer can, for example, be designed for a resistance of 20-315 Watts, but with only LED bulbs you can easily get below 20 Watts, and then the dimmer will not be able to do the job, says Langeland. The result is light that flickers, while the dimmer tries to do the job as best it can.By the way, did you know that fewer than one in ten seniors have sufficient light in the hallway and living room?Poor lighting increases the risk of falls and health problems. The short-term solution is to replace some of the LED bulbs with halogen again. Then you increase the resistance for the dimmer, so that it reaches the correct level. The long-term solution, which the electrician recommends, is to have the dimmer changed.- Basically, the best thing is to do everything at once: replace all the old bulbs, and have an electrician come and install the right dimmer immediately, says Langeland. However, this is quite far from what he sees people doing in practice.- We electricians are often not called until the problem has been going on for a long time. The homeowner may have bought a dimmer, had it lying on the kitchen counter for half a year, talked to an electrician friend and then tried to install it himself to the best of his ability, before finally calling us to clean it all up, says Langeland, who emphasizes that it is illegal for unskilled people to install dimmers themselves – this is work that must be left to professionals.Poor light quality can also be linked to the light bulbs themselves being too bad.- If you pay less than a hundred Danish kroner per LED bulb, you can be almost certain that the quality is up to par, says Langeland, who recommends steering clear of the cheapest online stores and outlets when shopping for lights.- If you buy light bulbs in a lamp shop, you can actually go back after six months if the product was of lower quality than you have reason to expect, he says, and adds that it is also a good solution to buy light bulbs directly from your local electrician.- All electricians sell light bulbs.I can order for you today, and you'll have them in your mailbox tomorrow, and then I'll send the bill after. The advantage of doing it this way is that, as an electrician, I actually have to be responsible for the quality of what I then order for you.If the quality is not good enough, you can come back to me and complain, and then I have to put it right, says Langeland. Many LED bulbs are labeled with a lifetime that seems almost infinitely long.Up to 50,000 hours or 20 years is a common marking on the packaging, but if you do the math, these numbers don't quite add up: for 50,000 to correspond to 20 years of life, a very limited number of hours of use per day is added up, and moreover, the number is given in "up to", not "at least", which are two very different things. But if you want the longest possible lifetime for the light bulb, it is a point to correct for flickering, which will reduce the lifetime considerably.Vibration, on the other hand, to which incandescent bulbs were sensitive, is not as important a factor for LED bulbs. If you switch from incandescent bulbs to LEDs in the stairwell where the children race up and down with stomping feet, you will therefore be able to notice that the intervals between each time you have to change light bulbs are considerably longer with LEDs.As a homeowner, you will find a great deal of what you need for the electrical system, for example various dimmers, as off-the-shelf items in ordinary shops. This does not mean that you are allowed to mount it yourself. The shops are allowed to sell the equipment to anyone, but they must also inform in writing about it if it is material that can only be installed by a registered installation company. It must be stated on the package, or stated where you buy the product.Ordinary people are only allowed to carry out "minor works".In the main, this is about changing covers, connecting lamp cords, changing plugs (plugs) and connecting certain types of lamps. The risk of electricity wastage in households is used as an argument against increased electricity subsidies. There is little reason for that. The motivation to reduce energy consumption is high anyway, writes Morten Andreas Meyer in Huseierne. There have been great expectations that the government will come to the fore after a summer with record high electricity prices and much criticism. With the exception of slightly improved power support, there was little to cheer about today.Norge Bank raised the interest rate "double" before the summer and has predicted a mortgage interest rate of 4.5 per cent next summer.Does that mean you should tie the interest rate on the mortgage?Hydropower production belongs to all of us.The homeowners therefore believe that we must put rules in place for how much water the power producers can draw from the water reservoirs.Log in Become a member Member benefits
